Klamath Falls, Oregon – Housing rules can sound technical, but the decisions behind them can shape what gets built, where it goes and how many housing choices residents have. Klamath County and the City of Klamath Falls are now asking the public to join that conversation.
A joint Community Open House is scheduled for Monday, August 31, as local officials continue work on housing code changes intended to encourage more housing production, improve affordability and expand the types of homes available across the area.
The free, drop-in event will run from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Government Center Room 219, 305 Main Street in Klamath Falls. There will be no formal presentation or public hearing. Instead, residents can arrive at any point during the 90-minute window, review information and speak directly with members of the project team.

The discussion centers on the Klamath Falls Housing Code Amendments Project, a collaborative effort involving both the county and city. Staff will explain current housing requirements and discuss possible changes that could reduce obstacles to new development while supporting affordability and additional housing choices.

The meeting comes as Klamath Falls has already been making changes to its residential development rules. Recent city updates have included provisions addressing middle housing land divisions, smaller minimum lot sizes in certain zones, clearer development standards and changes involving parking and other requirements.
Those revisions were intended in part to bring local rules into better alignment with state law and make housing development less difficult under existing regulations.
At the same time, city planning staff previously said a broader review of residential development codes was beginning with support from a state grant sought jointly by Klamath Falls and Klamath County. The August 31 open house is connected to that wider effort to examine how local development rules could better respond to housing needs.

For residents, the open-house format offers an opportunity to learn what the current rules require before potential changes move further through the process. Project staff will also be available to answer questions about the options under consideration.
