City of Klamath Falls encourages businesses to apply for limited pedlets as competition heats up for outdoor dining spaces

Klamath Falls, Oregon – Excited to announce the reopening of applications for its creative Seasonal Pedlet/Parklet Program, Klamath Falls is working towards reviving and improving the environment of its downtown area. Targeting local companies along the downtown corridor, this project intends to change the urban scene by letting outdoor dining areas extension onto the sidewalks and into parking lots.

According to the program, a pedlet is a temporary path that stretches the outdoor dining area of a company onto the sidewalk so making sure pedestrians still have a clear and safe passage around it.

These buildings are entirely compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), easily match the level of the pavement, and occupy one to two parallel parking spaces. Alternatively, a parklet is positioned right in the next parking lot, therefore maintaining a completely clean sidewalk for pedestrian use.

Two municipal-owned pedlets have been built in close proximity by the city in close association with Healthy Klamath and the Klamath Falls Downtown Association. Originally introduced in 2021, this creative idea has been a hit among companies and customers since it gives the area new life and supports outside dining.

Applications from companies interested in either building their own or using one of the two city-fabricated pedlets are now invited by the program. There are few city-provided pedlets, hence competition is expected to be strong.

Businesses are therefore urged to offer comprehensive plans to raise their chances of getting chosen. Upon approval, there will be a fee of $500 which covers the city’s costs for the pedlet’s delivery, installation, subsequent disassembly, haul-off, and off-season storage.

The seasonal pedlet program manual and application are available on the official city website for people interested in applying or looking for further information. Further inquiries can be directed to the City Development Services by phone or email.
