City of Klamath Falls opens recruitment for Water Division operators offering structured path from associate training to full Oregon Health Authority certification

Klamath Falls, Oregon – The City of Klamath Falls has opened the door to new applicants seeking careers in its Water Division, announcing that it is now accepting applications for Oregon Health Authority-certified Distribution Operators, as well as Distribution Operator Associates.

The associate role offers a structured path forward. Those hired step into a hands-on training environment designed to prepare them for full OHA certification. City officials describe it as a long-term opportunity—one built on learning, steady growth, and advancement within the division. While the position is non-supervisory, it carries significant responsibility and requires both teamwork and independent judgment once certification is achieved.

Operators in the division work closely with the city’s water and geothermal distribution systems. Daily duties include assisting with the installation of mainline pipes and valves, repairing and replacing meters, maintaining hydrants, and operating utility-related machinery.

The role also involves collecting and recording operational data from pump stations and monitoring system conditions. Attention to detail is essential, as is the ability to distinguish between normal and abnormal system performance by following established procedures.

To qualify for the associate position, applicants must hold a high school diploma or GED, with preference given to those who bring one to two years of relevant experience. Candidates must demonstrate the knowledge necessary to obtain and maintain a Water Distribution Operator Grade I Certification under Oregon Health Authority guidelines.

All operator levels require a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and the ability to secure an Oregon Commercial Driver’s License, Class B, with airbrake and tanker endorsements within six months.

Hourly pay varies by certification level, ranging from $19.50 to $44.96. Applications are being accepted online through the city’s website. The position will remain open until filled, with the first review of applications scheduled for March 3. The City of Klamath Falls states it is an equal opportunity employer committed to nondiscrimination in hiring practices.
