Klamath County invites high school students to help shape local grant decisions through junior panel roles

Klamath County, Oregon – Klamath County high school students who want a closer look at how local decisions are made now have a chance to take part directly in the process.

The Klamath County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for junior member positions on two local review panels: the Klamath County Tourism Grant Review Panel and the Economic Development Grant Review Panel.

The openings are designed for high school students who live in Klamath County and are interested in learning more about public service, civic involvement, community planning, tourism, and economic development.

The junior member roles will give students a seat at the table during discussions about grant funding that can help shape the county’s future. Those selected will serve for one school year and take part in the review and discussion of applications connected to tourism and economic development grant programs.

For students, the opportunity is more than a line on a résumé. It is a real-world introduction to local government, where ideas, priorities, and community needs are weighed before funding decisions move forward. It also offers young residents a chance to better understand how public dollars and grant programs can support projects, events, business growth, and long-term community goals.

The county is encouraging students with an interest in civic engagement, community development, or public service to apply. Selected students are expected to be appointed in time for the fall grant cycles, giving them the chance to participate when the review panels begin their seasonal work.

Applications are available online through the county’s advisory board and committee application page at here. The deadline to apply is May 20, 2026.

Students who want more details can contact Don Beatty, Klamath County Grants Manager, at [email protected] or by calling 541.851.3637.
