Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs strengthens veteran engagement with March town hall and advisory meeting

Oregon – The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs (ODVA) is set to hold its first Veterans Advisory Committee meeting of the year virtually on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Starting at 9:30 a.m., the session will move into a public town hall gathering at 11:00 a.m. This event represents the ongoing ODVA effort to interact with and assist Oregon’s veteran population.

An essential component of the ODVA since its founding in 1945, the Veterans Advisory Committee guides staff members and the director of the agency. Including nine experienced members nominated by the governor, the committee advocates for the concerns of veterans from across Oregon and addresses relevant veteran problems.

Apart from a forum for quarterly committee business, the forthcoming virtual conference serves as a means of direct engagement between veterans and ODVA leadership. Veterans and other attendees will have the chance to express their concerns, ask questions, and directly submit comments to the committee and agency director at the town hall discussion.

The ODVA invites community members to register online to attend one or both sections of the conference in order to encourage more general involvement. On the ODVA website there are links for registration and instructions. During this interactive segment—which will be recorded and uploaded online later—participants in the town hall are asked to actively engage by turning on their cameras and unmuting their mics.

Those who cannot make it can also help by emailing written comments to the committee at [email protected]. This process ensures that the voices of those who cannot be present are still heard.

The ODVA’s webpage provides information about the Veterans Advisory Committee including meeting materials and registration instructions. Aimed at helping veterans navigating and secure the benefits they have earned, the site also provides a variety of materials regarding the many services offered by the ODVA.

The ODVA remains dedicated to meet the needs of Oregon’s five different service eras of veterans. Through organizing these events and offering several venues for participation, the ODVA reaffirms its goal of honoring and supporting veterans from across the state. Visit oregon.gov/odva for additional information on the meeting or about veteran benefits and services.
