Salem, Oregon – One of Oregon’s most meaningful annual gatherings is returning to the State Capitol next week, offering residents an opportunity to honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. military. The ceremony will include a military flyover, patriotic traditions and a moment of remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
And the invitation extends to everyone. Whether they have a personal connection to military service or simply want to show their appreciation, Oregonians can attend the November 11 ceremony free of charge.
The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs (ODVA) is reminding residents that the 2026 Statewide Veterans Day Ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11, at Oregon State Capitol State Park in Salem.

The annual observance brings together military veterans, their families, government officials and community members to recognize the contributions of Americans who have served across generations.
This year’s gathering will feature remarks from ODVA Director Dr. Nakeia Council Daniels, along with other invited guests. Organizers have also planned several traditional military and patriotic tributes to mark the occasion.
One of the anticipated highlights will be a military flyover conducted by the Oregon Air National Guard’s 142nd Wing.
The program will also include the presentation of the colors, the national anthem and a ceremonial wreath laying. The playing of “Taps,” a military tradition closely associated with remembrance and honoring fallen service members, will be part of the observance.
The ceremony will take place on the Capitol Mall, directly across Court Street from the main entrance to the Oregon State Capitol Building.
Organizers have confirmed that seating will be available for attendees. However, because the event will be held outdoors regardless of weather conditions, visitors are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and prepare for possible rain.
Those unable to travel to Salem will still have an opportunity to participate. ODVA plans to broadcast the ceremony live through its official Facebook page at facebook.com/odvavet, allowing residents throughout Oregon to watch from home.
The statewide gathering is only one of several Veterans Day observances planned across Oregon.
ODVA is encouraging people who cannot attend the Capitol ceremony to consider participating in local commemorations in their own communities.
These events include parades, public ceremonies and community gatherings dedicated to recognizing veterans and military families.
Residents can find information about local activities through the department’s Statewide Veterans Day Events Calendar, which provides details about observances taking place across Oregon.

With Veterans Day approaching, state officials are extending an open invitation to Oregonians to take part in a tradition dedicated to recognizing military service, remembering sacrifice and honoring those who have worn the nation’s uniform.
