Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls kicks off fall term with annual Convocation ceremony honoring faculty and staff achievements

Klamath Falls, Oregon – The Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) campus buzzed with excitement as faculty and staff members gathered for the much-anticipated annual Convocation ceremony. Celebrated on September 17, this event not only welcomed the fall term but also brought in fresh and returning teachers and staff members all getting ready for the academic year due to start on September 25.

Convocation at Oregon Tech is a cherished tradition, signaling the start of the academic season. For teachers and staff, it is a vital opportunity to interact with one another, become familiar with new teaching strategies, and improve operational processes to guarantee another successful year. The occasion also honors the commitment of the Oregon Tech community to quality in instruction and student support.

The ceremony this year was especially unforgettable since several academic and staff members who have made major contributions to the university were acknowledged. The honors emphasized the various and committed efforts of the faculty in improving academic programs and student experiences.

Celebrating his creative partnership with student services, Assistant Professor in Communication Dr. Riley Richards earned the Student Affairs Most Valuable Partner Award. Recognizing his creative research and academic achievements, Assistant Professor in Natural Sciences Dr. David Grossnickle received the Oregon Tech Foundation Rising Faculty Scholar Award.

Several Oregon Tech Foundation Faculty Achievement Awards were given in honor of additional scholarly contributions and teaching excellence. Recipients were Assistant Professor in Dental Hygiene Jeannie Bopp and Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy Dr. Naga Korivi. A group of outstanding teachers—Dr. George Drouant, Tara Guthrie, Gary Lomprey, and Dr. Mark Neupert—who have had a major impact their departments from Computer Systems Engineering Technology to Humanities and Social Sciences—earned Excellence in Teaching Awards.

With Maria Ibarra, a custodian in Facilities Services, recognized this year, the Classified Staff Award also emphasized the vital support responsibilities that enhance the campus environment. For her extraordinary work helping students with scholarships and financial planning, Julie Daniels, a Scholarship Officer and Financial Aid Counselor, was presented the President’s Staff Award.

Nomination letters describing their commitment to the university’s goals, their good influence on colleagues and students, and their personification of Oregon Tech helped determine the honorees. These honors honor not only personal success but also the Oregon Tech community’s shared will to create an innovative and growing environment.
