Parents invited to join focus groups in Klamath County superintendent search process as current superintendent is set to retire

Klamath Falls, Oregon – The Klamath County School District has officially started looking for its next superintendent now that Superintendent Glen Szymoniak said he would retire at the conclusion of the school year. His retirement will be official on June 30, 2026, giving the district several months to find new leaders through an exhaustive search that includes input from the community.

The KCSD Board of Directors has hired Human Capital Enterprises, an education consulting business that specializes in executive searches, to help with the process. The consultants will work closely with the board to get feedback, set priorities, and assist decide what kind of person the district’s future superintendent should be.

Families and community members will have an important role in the search. Human Capital Enterprises will help run a series of focus groups to learn more about what the district values and what local residents and parents think are the most important traits in the next leader.

Parents who want to take part should fill out an interest form by 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 29. A lottery will choose the participants, with a focus on making sure that people from all throughout the district are represented. On Friday, January 30, those who were chosen will be informed.

There will be two virtual focus groups on Zoom. The first one is on Tuesday, February 3, from 6:00 to 6:40 p.m., and the second one is on Thursday, February 5, from 9:00 to 9:40 a.m. Each session will last about 40 minutes.

The “Next Superintendent Criteria” will be based on the feedback from these meetings and the results of a districtwide poll that will be sent out soon. This framework will aid with the search and support hiring activities at the regional and national levels.

The district will start a private online survey on Thursday, January 29, for anyone who can’t join a focus group. The district will distribute the survey on its website, social media, and Bright Arrow, its communication system, so that all families can have their say.
