Klamath Falls, Oregon – Visitors who enjoy walking along the Link River Trail in Klamath Falls will soon notice a temporary change to the familiar route. Beginning March 17, Pacific Power plans to close a section of the popular trail to allow construction work near the West Side canal close to the Link River Dam.
The project involves work in an area where water normally flows from the dam downstream to the powerhouse. During the construction period, that flow will be halted so crews can safely carry out the work. Heavy equipment will be operating near the canal while the improvements are underway.
Officials say the project has been carefully coordinated with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation as well as the City of Klamath Falls to ensure the work proceeds smoothly and safely.
Because of the construction activity, the north access point to the trail and a nearby stretch of the pathway will be closed to the public. The closure is expected to remain in place for roughly two to three weeks while crews complete the necessary work. Trail users are being asked to follow posted signs and stay clear of the construction zone for their own safety.
Despite the temporary restrictions, a large portion of the trail will remain available for those looking to enjoy the area. The southern entrance off West Main Street will stay open, allowing visitors to continue using about a mile of the trail. Access will only be limited near the area immediately surrounding the Link River Dam.
Local officials encourage the public to respect the temporary closure and remain cautious around the work site while the project is underway. Once the work is completed, the closed section of the trail is expected to reopen for regular use.
