Oregon secures over $4 million in federal funding to upgrade Redmond and Albany airports

Oregon – A fresh wave of federal funding is set to strengthen key transportation links in Oregon, with more than $4 million directed toward improvements at the Redmond and Albany Municipal Airports.

The announcement, made in Washington, D.C., brings renewed attention to the role regional airports play in supporting both daily travel and long-term economic stability across the state.

The funding will be used to upgrade essential infrastructure at both facilities, ensuring they can keep pace with rising passenger activity and evolving operational needs. As smaller airports continue to serve as vital entry points for communities, these improvements are expected to enhance reliability and capacity while maintaining safety standards.

Congresswoman Janelle Bynum, joined by U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, pointed to the broader impact of such investments, emphasizing how air travel infrastructure connects local economies to wider markets.

The upgrades are seen not only as physical improvements but as a step toward expanding opportunity, supporting businesses, facilitating travel, and strengthening regional competitiveness.

Officials highlighted that airports like those in Redmond and Albany often serve multiple roles beyond commercial travel. They are critical during emergency situations, enabling faster response times and ensuring that aid and personnel can reach affected areas without delay. This dual function underscores the importance of maintaining modern, efficient facilities.

The announcement also reflects a continued push for federal support across Oregon’s aviation network. Bynum has previously backed similar efforts, including a substantial funding allocation announced in 2025 aimed at enhancing rural airport infrastructure throughout the state. That earlier investment signaled a long-term commitment to improving accessibility in less densely populated areas.

As work moves forward, the latest funding is expected to bring tangible improvements to both airports, reinforcing their place as essential hubs within Oregon’s transportation system. With infrastructure upgrades on the horizon, local communities stand to benefit from smoother travel, stronger economic connections, and a more resilient network prepared to meet future demands.
