Klamath Falls, Oregon – Beginning the week of May 5, crews will begin a series of pavement repairs along Main Street with focused asphalt work at the intersection of Main and 12th. As large grinders and pavers come in to level out potholes and fractures, drivers may anticipate a single-lane restriction directed by flaggers and traffic cones.
Activity moves a bit south on Tuesday and Wednesday: the same grind-and-pave routine will be on Main Street between 10th and 11th. Once again, drivers will have lane limitations and a regulated traffic flow; city workers want to finish most of the work by day’s end on May 7, weather allowing. Local officials want to reduce disturbances and preserve a consistent traffic pattern across the downtown area by keeping repairs concentrated inside the same broad corridor.
Focus on Thursday, May 8 will be on the block between 8th and 9th Streets. The customary pattern returns: early in the morning, grinding machines will break up the old asphalt; followed by fresh paving that fills in low spots and restores a uniform surface. Although the work zone reduces Main Street to one through-lane, the crew’s quick pace should return traffic to normal before rush hour.
Specialized paint teams will be out from 3 a.m. to about 1:30 p.m. every day through Friday, May 9, starting in the pre-dawn hours. Their goal: repaint bike lanes on Oregon Avenue and renew crosswalk stripes and pavement legends along Nevada Street and Lakeshore.

Intersections planned for new markings include Esplanade at Wall, Esplanade at Spring, and important intersections along Main—East Main, Spring, and Broad. Bike lanes will get their coatings of green in the morning, so guaranteeing obvious direction for two-wheeled commuters.

All of these activities depend on cooperative weather, hence teams are ready to change timetables in case of rain or strong winds. Warning signs should be heeded by commuters and residents; they should also reduce speed in work zones and prepare for minor delays. Careful coordination and a little patience will help to make Main Street safer and smoother for all who travel it during the week.
