Klamath County seeks service-minded applicants for patrol and corrections deputy positions

Klamath County, Oregon – A career in public safety can take many forms, and the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office is making clear that it is looking for people ready to step into that mission from day one.

The agency is currently hiring Patrol Deputies and Corrections Deputies, opening the door to applicants who want to serve Klamath County while building a long-term path in law enforcement.

For those drawn to work in the field, Patrol Deputies stand on the front lines of public safety. They respond to emergencies, investigate crimes and traffic crashes, and work to reduce injuries and property loss across the county.

The role also offers room to grow into specialized assignments, including Marine Patrol, Forest Patrol, School Resource Officer, SRT, and other advanced opportunities. For people considering the job but wanting a closer look before applying, the office notes that ride-alongs are available.

The Sheriff’s Office also highlights the broader investigative side of the profession. Detectives handle major crimes against people, along with property, narcotics, and computer crime cases. Their work plays a critical role in clearing the innocent and helping prosecutors hold offenders accountable.

Inside the jail, Corrections Deputies take on a different but equally important responsibility. They help maintain a safe, secure, and respectful environment while overseeing inmate transport both locally and to the Department of Corrections.

They also support work and rehabilitation programs, with the Corrections Programs Division managing inmate programs, the CERT Team, transport duties, and even nationwide inmate transport.

In both Patrol and Corrections, the message is the same: this is not simply a job opening, but a career track. The Sheriff’s Office says both divisions offer advancement opportunities, including instructor roles in firearms, defensive tactics, and non-lethal options, along with Field Training Officer assignments and a wide range of training programs.

The agency says it is seeking motivated, integrity-driven applicants who are ready to serve their community and grow in a public safety profession. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, an age of at least 21, the ability to meet DPSST physical standards and be sworn as an Oregon police officer, passage of the Klamath County P.O.S.T. written test, and a valid Oregon driver’s license or the ability to obtain one. First Aid and CPR are also required upon certification.

The Sheriff’s Office says it provides structured training, DPSST certification, and what it describes as a rewarding career with Klamath County.
