Local seniors invited to resource fairs offering safety tips, guest speakers, and free lunch in Klamath and Lake counties

Klamath Falls, Oregon – In honor of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, people who live in Klamath and Lake counties are invited to two free public activities that will help raise awareness and give people useful information. These activities are being put on with the cooperation of the Oregon Department of Human resources (ODHS) and a number of local groups. Their goal is to serve older individuals by linking them with useful resources, giving educational programs, and building a strong feeling of community.

The first event will be in the Klamath Basin Senior Citizens’ Center at 2045 Arthur Street in Klamath Falls on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The second event will take place on Wednesday, June 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Center in Lakeview, which used to be the Lake County Senior Center, at 11 North G Street.

The ODHS Office of Aging and People with Disabilities (APD), the APD Adult Protective Services Unit, the Klamath & Lake Counties Council on Aging, and other community partners helped plan both events. They are meant to be both fun and educational. There will be guest speakers, fun activities, free stuff, and a lot of informational booths at each fair.

One of the main goals of the events is to teach people how to avoid typical scams that target elderly people and how to spot the indicators of elder abuse. June is a month about elder abuse, and these local actions show that the whole community is committed to protecting seniors who are at risk.

To add to the welcoming atmosphere, a free lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. during both events.

Everyone is welcome at these resource fairs, which are meant to be open to everyone. If you have questions regarding accessibility or need accommodations, please contact event coordinator Josh Woodson at (541) 273-3044 or at [email protected].

Organizers want to give older people and their families the tools and information they need to feel safer, more connected, and better able to protect themselves and others through these two events.
