Klamath Falls seeks Accounting Technician to manage city financial operations

Klamath Falls, Oregon – The City of Klamath Falls is now taking applications for an Accounting Technician, a key support role within its Finance & Business Services Department. The position centers on the careful handling of the City’s accounts payable and receivable, ensuring that financial transactions are processed accurately and on time.

This role serves as a primary point of contact for both internal departments and members of the public. The selected candidate must be comfortable working in a fast, paced setting with a high volume of customer interactions, responding to inquiries in person, in writing, and by phone.

While the position does not include supervisory responsibilities, it carries significant responsibility in maintaining the integrity of the City’s financial records.

Duties range from acting as the City’s cashier, receipting funds and reconciling them to source documents, to preparing and posting entries to the general ledger. The Accounting Technician also assigns account codes, prepares journal entries to correct or adjust transactions, and reconciles subsidiary journals.

Monthly accounting tasks, including balance sheet reconciliations and expenditure and revenue reporting, are part of the routine. The position also contributes to audit and year, end schedules used in the preparation of annual financial reports, manages financial record archiving and destruction, and generates invoices and account statements.

Applicants must hold a high school diploma or GED and have at least three years of professional experience, including customer service and office work. Two years of bookkeeping and accounting experience, preferably in a governmental setting, are required, along with experience using computerized accounting systems.

Proficiency with ten, key by touch and a typing speed of 60 words per minute are also expected. An Associate’s Degree in a related field may substitute for some experience, with an A.A. in Accounting preferred. A valid Oregon Driver’s License is required.

The position offers an hourly wage ranging from $23.97 to $34.51 under AFSCME Grade 113. Applications must be submitted online at www.klamathfalls.city.
