Water main replacement project begins along Austin Street in Klamath Falls with work expected through April

Klamath Falls, Oregon – Work has begun on a water infrastructure project along Austin Street, where construction crews started replacing an aging water main on March 16, 2026. The work is focused on the stretch between the 3800 and 4000 blocks, an area where underground utility improvements are now underway as part of ongoing efforts to maintain the reliability of the local water system.

According to the city’s Water Division, the project is expected to continue through the spring, with all construction activities scheduled to wrap up by Thursday, April 30, 2026.

During this period, crews will be working along the corridor to remove the existing pipeline and install new infrastructure designed to support consistent water service for the surrounding neighborhood.

Residents living near the construction zone may notice the usual signs of an active work site. Equipment will be operating throughout the project, bringing periodic construction noise as crews dig, install new piping, and restore sections of the roadway once work is complete.

Temporary traffic controls will also be put in place to guide drivers safely through or around the work area while construction progresses.

City officials say they understand the inconvenience that projects like this can create and are asking residents to remain patient as the work moves forward. Maintaining and upgrading water lines is a routine but essential part of ensuring that homes and businesses continue receiving dependable service.

Homeowners will receive advance notice if construction requires any temporary interruptions to water service. Officials say these notifications are intended to help residents plan ahead and avoid unexpected disruptions.

The Water Division thanked the community for its cooperation while crews carry out the improvements, noting that the short-term construction activity is part of a broader effort to keep the city’s water infrastructure functioning safely and efficiently for years to come.
