Salem, Oregon – The Oregon College Savings Plan has changed its name and its style. Last week, state authorities said that the program will now be called Embark. This move shows that they have bigger plans for the future of Oregon students.
The decision to rebrand came after months of research and conversations with families across the state. A lot of people thought the original name was overly focused on traditional college paths. The new name makes it obvious that the savings program is aimed to help all kinds of post-high school education, from trade schools and apprenticeships to colleges and credential programs, according to state lawmakers.
“My focus has always been on improving financial wellness for Oregonians, and this new name reflects our commitment to helping more families start saving today for a financially secure future,” said Oregon State Treasurer Elizabeth Steiner. “By reintroducing this program as Embark, we’re making it clear that we support every educational path after high school, not just college, so families can feel confident their savings will fit their child’s dreams.”
Ryan Mann, Executive Director of Upward Oregon, described the change as essential. He said families made it clear that the phrase “college savings” felt too limiting in today’s uncertain world.
“Embark captures the spirit of starting a new adventure, and we want families to know that wherever the path may lead, we have a plan to help them navigate the journey,” Mann said.

The new name for the plan continues to provide tax-free investment growth, state tax credits that may be used again, and low-cost options that are meant to meet a variety of financial requirements. It also keeps its strong focus on customer service so that parents and guardians can feel good about how they handle their finances.

Families were able to witness Embark in action for the first time at the OMSI Oregon Science Festival on September 13–14. The program’s outreach team was there to answer questions, explain the new features, and talk to parents who are looking for the best ways to get ready for the future. Kids were also able to meet Curious George as part of the festival.

People who have current accounts should know that their funds, investments, and choices are still safe. The name and branding are the only things that have changed. Embark is the next step in Oregon’s trusted school savings program, which has been revised to include a broader, more inclusive view of what education might mean.
