Up to $100K in grants now available to help Oregon colleges expand services for student veterans

Salem, Oregon – The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs (ODVA) is now accepting applications for its 2025–27 Campus Veteran Resource Center (CVRC) Grant Program. This is an important program that aims to improve support services for student veterans across the state. This competitive award is for public colleges and universities. It gives them money to improve and extend the services available to veterans transitioning into academic life.

The Oregon Legislature has set aside up to $800,000 for the program this biennium. Part of the financing comes from the Oregon Lottery, which is a result of Measure 96, which sets aside some of the lottery’s proceeds for veteran programs. Schools can get grants of up to $100,000 each to build or improve their campus centers that help student veterans.

Campus Veteran Resource Centers are now an important part of Oregon’s higher education system. These centers are places where veterans can get personalized help with school, personal growth, and getting ready for a job. These centers offer a wide range of services, such as mental health resources, peer mentoring, academic advising, and access to VA benefits. These services are very important for helping veterans get used to college life and plan for their lives after graduation.

“Oregon’s Campus Veteran Resource Centers, along with their dedicated coordinators and staff, serve as a critical cornerstone to support student veterans’ environmental, intellectual, and social well-being while earning a post-secondary degree or certification,” said ODVA Director Dr. Nakeia Daniels.

“This grant program underscores our commitment to meeting the diverse needs of student veterans across the state by supporting campus resources and services that promote student veteran personal growth and academic success.”

To be eligible for this round of funding, applicants must be one of Oregon’s 17 community colleges or seven public universities (excluding Oregon Health & Science University) and must already have or plan to create a Campus Veteran Resource Center or coordinator job. The purpose of these grant funds is to improve services that are already in place or to set up new, long-lasting support systems that meet the specific needs of veterans.

The application period started on Monday, July 28, 2025, and ends on Monday, September 22, 2025. On August 1 at 10:00 a.m., ODVA will hold an instructional webinar to help people who want to apply. The webinar will explain the application procedure and answer questions from schools that are interested.
