Spring in Klamath Falls starts with free compost giveaway helping residents enrich soil naturally

Klamath Falls, Oregon – Spring is arriving with more than just warmer days in Klamath Falls, it is also bringing back a familiar opportunity for residents to give their gardens and landscapes a natural boost. City officials have confirmed that the annual free compost program will return in early April, offering locally produced material to the community once again.

Beginning Friday, April 3, the City’s compost facility will open its gates for weekly distribution, continuing each Friday morning as long as supplies last.

The pickup window is set from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., giving early risers and weekend planners alike a chance to collect what they need. The site, located at 1200 South Spring Street, will serve as the central point for this seasonal giveaway.

The compost available through the program is classified as Exceptional Quality, created from treated biosolids and carefully processed to meet high standards.

The result is a nutrient-rich material designed to improve soil health, support plant growth, and reduce the need for chemical fertilizers. For many residents, it has become a reliable way to prepare gardens, lawns, and landscaping projects for the months ahead.

Participation comes with a few simple requirements. Visitors are asked to arrive with a truck or trailer and a tarp to secure their load before leaving. On-site staff will be available to assist with loading, helping to keep the process moving smoothly and efficiently for everyone.

Because availability can vary from week to week, residents are encouraged to call ahead to confirm supply. A quick phone check after 10 a.m. on the Thursday before pickup can help avoid unnecessary trips and ensure that materials are still on hand.

Beyond convenience, the program reflects a broader effort to reuse resources in a meaningful way. By transforming treated waste into something beneficial, the city continues to promote a cycle where materials are not discarded, but instead returned to the earth with purpose.
