Oregon Tech infielder earns player of the week recognition

Oregon – Matthew Ortiz, a standout infielder for Oregon Tech, has been recognized as the Rize Laboratory-Cascade Conference Player of the Week. This recognition comes after Ortiz’s exceptional performance on the field, significantly contributing to the Hustlin’ Owls’ successful week.

Ortiz, a junior hailing from Garden Grove, California, played an important role in Oregon Tech’s impressive 5-1 record over the past week. The team notched victories in all five games where they scored 10 or more runs, thanks in no small part to Ortiz’s contributions at bat and on the bases.

During a four-game series against Corban, Ortiz showcased his skills by going 10-for-18, scoring eight runs, stealing six bases, hitting three doubles, and batting in four runs. His performance was equally outstanding in last Monday’s doubleheader against Eastern Oregon, where he drove in seven runs and hit his second home run of the season.

Ortiz’s achievements on the field have not only earned him individual honors but have also helped position the Hustlin’ Owls for a strong start in CCC play. The team is set to host British Columbia this weekend.
