Klamath County, Oregon – On Thursday, December 21, Oregon’s leader, Tina Kotek, revealed that she’s chosen David Schutt to be the new District Attorney for Klamath County, effective immediately. Schutt is stepping in for Eve Costello, who recently stepped down.
“David Schutt is a skilled and highly experienced prosecutor who has dedicated his career to the fair administration of justice,” said Governor Kotek according to a press release. “I look forward to seeing him bring his considerable experience and dedication to serve Klamath County as District Attorney.”
Schutt’s background includes working in the Klamath County District Attorney’s Office from 1996 to 2000. He then became the District Attorney of Lake County and held that position for 12 years. In 2014, he returned to Klamath County and worked there for six more years.
For the past two years, Schutt has been practicing as a criminal defense lawyer. He also taught at the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) and Klamath Community College.

Additionally, he has been involved in the community as a firefighter, emergency dispatcher, and 9-1-1 operator in Lakeview. He was recognized as Oregon’s top DUII Prosecutor in 2008. Schutt completed his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Missouri, Columbia.
